English Class Study Guide

Class Description:
The English curriculum will allow students to reach different levels of second language communication and second language acquisition according to the grade level and age. This will be reached by engaging active experiences that will lead to a dynamic learning environment. These curricular activities will renew the academic progress allowing students to use their creative critical thinking skills in the process of learning and sharing these with other classmates. The dynamic culture surrounding them will stimulate their academic progress to a whole new level of proficiency.
Goals:
The goals for the English class are to reach the established performance standards for each professional challenge: Effective oral communication, meaningful reading, literary appreciation, effective and creative writing and religious ethic and aesthetic values. Listening comprehension skills and Critical thinking skills will be imperative for this process.
Objective:
Provide an excellent learning environment that will enable the flow of a natural learning process and enrichment. To help students use all of the tools they have at their reach so that he or she can develop in all aspects of a complete and whole person and apply all that they learn including moral and spiritual values to their daily lives.
Materials:
The materials used for English class will be the English Harcourt reading book and workbook. An English notebook, and a Spanish- English dictionary (only required for third grade) For any other materials used in arts and crafts activities students will be notified with time.
Evaluations (To Parents)
Your child will be evaluated on attendance and participation, class work, homework, oral presentations, a portfolio, one project, notebook (organization and cleanliness)pop quizzes, alerted quizzes, and tests.
The teacher will give students specific instructions for the projects and portfolio; these will be completed at class and with the teachers' supervision.
